Transatlantic - Live In Europe (Double DVD and CD Limited Edition)

Transatlantic - Live In Europe (Double DVD and CD Limited Edition)This long awaited double DVD release from the prog supergroup Transatlantic has been worthwhile.  Recorded in Dolby 5:1 surround sound from the 013 in Tilburg Netherlands, the same place where the IQ DVD was filmed, and the two hour plus set just flows by.  The camera work and sound production is excellent and the six songs are enjoyable to watch and hear again if you were fortunate to be present at the filming.  The members of the band are Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Roine Stolt, Pete Trewavas and tour guest Daniel Gildenlow, and the cameras pick out the right moments like the solo bits and stuff like that!

DVD one is the show, and the tracks are Duel With The Devil, My New World, We All Need Some Light, Suite Charlotte Pike Medley (which features The Beatles Abbey Road side two sing-a-long!) Stranger In Your Soul, and encore All Of The Above.

DVD two features a tour documentary, and parts of the Paris show, along with some songs on the tour bus and in the prep room! There is a cracking version of Pink Floyd’s Shine On you Crazy Diamond, and a photo gallery.

The limited edition version includes the CDs featuring the soundtrack from DVD one, and this makes it a very nice package.

There is not a lot more I can add to this, only enjoy it, I have spent time watching this and it is very good quality all round.

Technical Aspects

The DVD has the choice of two sound formats - Dolby 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo.  Picture and sound are excellent throughout the concert, and the video camcorder features shine through too.

The DVD is ‘universal’ Region 0 and available in PAL or NTSC.  The screen aspect ratio is 4:3 (standard).

Package features

Well, with the limited edition double DVD package, you get the bonus double audio CDs, which is basically the concert soundtrack, and sandwiched between the discs is a full colour booklet featuring shots of the band onstage.  There is a foreword from each member too giving their impressions of the tour and their thanks.

Summary

This has been well worth the wait, and it is presented very well indeed.  A must for fans of Transatlantic and their own bands fans too. The background tour documentary is a pleasure to watch, and the Shine On piece is a true added bonus.  An Inside Out gem!
